Disconnect & Reconnect - Art Exhibition

Organisée par Madiha Bakir, Disconnect & Reconnect est une exposition en deux parties à la galerie d'art moderne Etihad et la terrasse de Manarat al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi.

Disconnect & Reconnectis an exhibition in two parts across the Etihad Modern Art Gallery and the Terrace at Manarat al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi. 

En ces temps de «retour à la normale» après plus de deux ans de pandémie, sept artistes basés aux EAU répondent à l'air du temps post-pandémique: souvenirs d'un virus invisible qui nous a forcés à nous déconnecter, couplés à une quête d'une connexion rééquilibrante entre nous et le monde extérieur.

At a time of re-normalization after more than two years of pandemic living, seven UAE-based artists respond to the post-pandemic zeitgeist: memories of an invisible virus that forced us to disconnect, coupled with a quest for a rebalancing connection between ourselves and the external world.

Disconnect & Reconnect: Part I s’installe à l’Etihad Modern Art Gallery et plaide pour une reconnexion consciente argumentant qu'un retour au modus operandi pré-pandémique serait une crise gâchée. Disconnect & Reconnect: Part II suit à l'espace Terrasse de Manarat al Saadiyat, où les sept artistes tentent de donner un sens à ce monde modifié et proposent des changements subtils pour créer de l'optimisme pour un avenir nouveau. Chaque artiste exploite son style afin d’explorer le potentiel de reconnexion. 

Disconnect & Reconnect: Part I takes over Etihad Modern Art Gallery and argues for a conscious reconnection and that a return to pre-pandemic modus operandi would be a crisis wasted. Disconnect & Reconnect: Part II follows at the Terrace space at Manarat al Saadiyat, where the seven artists attempt to make sense of this altered world and propose subtle shifts to create optimism for a new future. Each artist harnesses her style to explore the potential for reconnection.

Annabelle Smith Bigno’s ethereal, entwined landscapes and bare-foot figures on canvas persuade us to re-think our connection with nature.

En même temps, Asma Belhamar fusionne le rapport homme/nature, connectant bâtiments et montagnes. À travers le papier, le tissu et la céramique, Asma explore la reconnexion avec l'espace qui nous entoure - l'existence d'une matérialité hybride de terre et de béton. 

At the same time, Asma Belhamar melds the man/nature relationship together, connecting buildings and mountains. Through paper, fabric and ceramics, Asma explores reconnection with the space around us - the existence of a hybrid materiality of earth and concrete.

Azza al Qubaisi interroge l'identité dans le cadre de son voyage intérieur post-pandémique, combinant pour la première fois dans des sculptures uniques, son métal rustique caractéristique avec de l'acier réfléchissant. 

Azza al Qubaisi questions identity as part of her post-pandemic inner journey, combining her signature rustic metal with reflective steel in single sculptures for the first time.

Bénédicte Gimonnet évoque des forêts fantastiques sur aluminium, bois et toile proposant les paysages comme métaphores des jungles de nos cœurs et de nos esprits dans une reconnexion exploratoire avec soi. 

Benedicte Gimonnet conjures up fantastical forests on aluminum, wood and canvas proposing the landscapes as metaphors for the jungles of our hearts and minds in an exploratory reconnection with the self.

Les impressions numériques saisissantes et les croquis au crayon fantomatiques de Kim Robertson juxtaposent la beauté et la destruction de la nature et invoquent une nouvelle relation avec notre planète, un appel urgent à l'action avant qu'il ne soit trop tard.

Et enfin, Tala Atrouni présente des toiles abstraites électrisantes qui transmettent l'essence de la renaissance et de la résurrection dans des traits magnifiquement simples - une reconnexion avec la vie.

And finally, Tala Atrouni presents electrifying abstract canvases that convey the essence of rebirth and resurrection in beautifully simple strokes - a reconnection with life.
