LA FRANCE CÉLÈBRE SA PREMIÈRE "FÊTE NATIONALE NUMÉRIQUE" AUX EMIRATS ARABE UNIS

FRANCE TO CELEBRATE FIRST EVER "DIGITAL NATIONAL DAY" IN THE UAE

Le 14 juillet est un événement très attendu dans la capitale des Émirats Arabes Unis. Il réunit plus de 1500 invités, dont des hauts fonctionnaires des EAU, des diplomates et des membres de la communauté française, dans un hôtel prestigieux de la ville. Cette année, conformément aux mesures de sécurité et aux recommandations de santé publique, l'Ambassade de France à Abu Dhabi a décidé d'expérimenter un nouveau type de célébration pour la fête nationale.

The 14th of July, Bastille Day, which marks the anniversary of the 1789 French revolution, is a much awaited event in the UAE's capital, gathering more than 1,500 guests, including UAE senior officials, diplomats and members of the local French community, in one of the city's most prestigious hotels. 

This year, in line with the current safety measures and public health recommendations, the French Embassy in Abu Dhabi has decided to experiment a new kind of national day celebration. 

L'événement sera donc très différent, puisqu’il sera exclusivement digital, via le site internet de l’Ambassade de France et ses réseaux sociaux.

"La communauté française dans son ensemble est reconnaissante aux dirigeants des EAU d'avoir pris les mesures nécessaires pour protéger la population. Nous sommes donc pleinement déterminés à respecter et à mettre en œuvre les mesures de sécurité en place", a déclaré l'ambassadeur de France Ludovic Pouille. "Cependant, nous ne pouvions pas simplement annuler notre Fête Nationale. C'est pourquoi nous avons imaginé ce concept innovant et créatif d'une cérémonie en ligne."

This year's event will be very different, as the French Embassy has decided to embark on a fully digitalized event, through the Embassy's website and social media channels. 

"The French community as a whole is grateful to the UAE leadership for taking the necessary steps to protect the population. We are therefore fully committed to respect and implement the safety measures in place" stated French Ambassador Ludovic Pouille. "However, we could not imagine to simply cancel our National Day. This is how we came up with an innovative and creative concept of an online ceremony." 

Comme l'a expliqué l'Ambassadeur de France, les trois priorités de la cérémonie de cette année aux Emirats Arabes Unis sont d'abord d'honorer les victimes de cette terrible pandémie, aux EAU, en France et ailleurs dans le monde, de rendre hommage aux citoyens français des EAU - médecins, enseignants, acteurs culturels, soldats, fonctionnaires, chambres de commerce, etc. - qui ont aidé la communauté à surmonter ces temps difficiles en pleine coordination avec les autorités des EAU aux niveaux fédéral et local et enfin de souligner le partenariat exceptionnel entre la France et les EAU, qui a continué de prospérer dans ces circonstances exceptionnelles.

As explained by the French Ambassador, the three priorities of this year's ceremony in the UAE are firstly, to honor the victims of this awful pandemic, in the UAE, in France, and elsewhere in the world; secondly, to pay tribute to the French citizens in the UAE - doctors, teachers, cultural actors, soldiers, civil servants, business chambers and so on - who have helped the community to overcome these challenging times, in full coordination with the UAE authorities, at both federal and local levels ; thirdly, to highlight the outstanding partnership between France and the UAE, which has continued to flourish during these exceptional circumstances.

La cérémonie d'une heure sur le thème de la solidarité s’ouvrira par les hymnes émirien et français et se poursuivra par deux discours ministériels ainsi qu'un court concert.

"L'audience de l'Ambassade de France sur les réseaux sociaux - Facebook, Twitter et Instagram - a connu une croissance rapide ces dernières années et notre communication digitale a été de la plus haute importance pendant cette pandémie pour tenir nos concitoyens bien informés" a déclaré Antoine Alhéritière, responsable de la communication de l'Ambassade, en charge de l'organisation de l'événement. "Notre Fête Nationale numérique est une expérience sans précédent aux EAU. C'est un événement ouvert, accessible à tous. Les discours seront en français et en arabe, avec des sous-titres en anglais. Nous diffuserons la cérémonie sur Facebook et Twitter (@FranceEmirats), le 14 juillet, à partir de 19h (heure des EAU, 17h heure française). Venez nous rejoindre!"

The one-hour ceremony on the theme of solidarity will include an original performance of both Emirati and French anthems, two ministerial speeches, as well as a short musical concert. 

"The French Embassy's audience on the social networks - Facebook, Twitter and Instagram - has been growing rapidly in recent years, and our digital communication has been of utmost importance during the Covid-19 crisis to keep our fellow citizens well informed" stated Antoine Alhéritière, the Embassy's head of communications, in charge of organizing the event. "Our Digital national day is an unprecedented experiment in the UAE. It is an open event, accessible to all. The speeches will be in French and Arabic, with English subtitles. 30 000 ressortissants français résident aux EAU. À l'approche des célébrations du 14 juillet, S.A. le cheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, prince héritier d'Abu Dhabi et commandant suprême adjoint des forces armées a exprimé ses meilleurs vœux "à tous les citoyens français qui ont élu domicile aux EAU". Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces shared his best wishes "with all the French citizens who call the UAE home".
