Muriel Fournier habite depuis 20 ans aux Emirats. Maman d’une jeune fille handicapée moteur, elle s’est investie depuis longtemps dans le bénévolat et notamment, à Abu Dhabi, dans le «Future Centre for special needs», qui accueille sa fille depuis 4 ans. Armée de ténacité et d’un sourire chaleureux, elle part pour ce Centre à la recherche de bénévoles et de mécènes français. Madame Magazine l’a rencontrée.

Madame Magazine: Muriel, présentez nous cette structure d’accueil.

Muriel Fournier: Le Future Centre est un centre spécialisé pour enfants et jeunes adultes handicapés sous le haut patronage de son Altesse Cheik Nahayan Mubarak al Nahayan. Il regroupe 171 enfants de 16 nationalités souffrant de divers handicaps moteurs ou intellectuels. Les objectifs du Future Centre sont: l’éducation, la scolarisation, la socialisation et l’intégration dans la société. Pour cela, l’ensemble du personnel dispense cours, thérapies et formations générales ou individualisées.

MM: Où se situe ce centre?

MF: Il a récemment emménagé dans de nouveaux locaux à Mohammed Bin Zayed City et dispose désormais de beaucoup de place. Il y existe notamment un centre d’apprentissage qui possède, par exemple, une chambre dédiée à la formation en hôtellerie et un  petit supermarché, en cours de réalisation, pour la formation aux services à la clientèle. Co-présidente du Club des Femmes et Familles Francophones, j’ai souhaité, cette année, que nous participions à ce projet. Grâce à une vente organisée par nos bénévoles, nous avons recueilli 5.000 AED qui ont été intégralement utilisés pour l’achat des rayonnages de ce «supermarché d’apprentissage». Il faut maintenant les remplir!

MM: Concrètement, comment peut-on vous aider?

MF: Le Future Centre fait appel à toutes les bonnes volontés et recherche (d’octobre à juin) des femmes disponibles une matinée par semaine pour aider les jeunes filles dans la piscine (chauffée et couverte!). Par ailleurs, s’il est financé à hauteur de 48% par les droits d’écolage, les 52% restant sont pris en charge grâce aux généreux donateurs de toutes nationalités, mais surtout anglophones. Pour finaliser ses objectifs, le centre cherche sans relâche des bienfaiteurs. Les dons, du plus petit au plus grand, sont les bienvenus pour donner des ailes à ce projet en faveurs de la jeunesse handicapée résidant aux Emirats.

Muriel Fournier has been living in Abu Dhabi for the past 20 years. As the mother of a physically handicapped young girl, she spends all her time volunteering and especially for the “Future Center For Special Needs” in Abu Dhabi, where her daughter has been going for the past 4 years. Armed with strength and a warm smile, she heads off to the center looking for volunteers and French sponsors. Madame Magazine met with her.

Madame Magazine: Muriel, tell us about the center.

Muriel Fournier: The Future Center is a specialized center for handicapped children and young adults under the patronage of his Highness Sheikh Nahayan Mubarak Al Nahayan. It accommodates 170 children from 16 different nationalities suffering from various physical or mental disabilities. The objectives of the Future Center are: education, schooling, socialization and integration in society. That is why the entire staff provides the students with classes, therapies, and training either general or individualized.

MM: Where is the center located?

MF: They recently moved to their new campus in Mohammed Bin Zayed City, which is very spacious. They even have a vocational training center, which has, for example, a room dedicated to the training in Hospitality and they are building a small supermarket, for the Customer Service training. Being the co-president of the Francophone Women and Families Club, I wanted us to be personally involved in this project. Thanks to a charity sale organized by our volunteers, we gathered 5000 AED, which was entirely used to purchase the shelving of this “training supermarket”. We now have to fill up the shelves!

MM: how can we actually help?

MF: The Future Center is in need of all goodwill and is seeking (from October till June) women available one morning per week to help out with the young girls in the pool (heated and covered!). Besides, even if tuitions fees finance 48% of it, generous donators from all nationalities, but mostly from English speaking countries, cover 52%. In order to accomplish its goals, the institution is always looking for new donators. Donations, small and big, are welcome to give wings to this project in order to help the young disabled living in UAE.
